Hi School of Engineering Students!

School of Engineering’s Club is organizing a sports event called
Swim-Do dedicated for all School of Engineering students.

Date: 25th November 2009
Venue: NYP Swimming Stadium
Time: 3pm-6pm

Games to be held on the day:

- Water Captain's Ball
- 250m Relay Swim

* All SEG (E) & (M) side students are highly recommended to join us for a day of fun and enjoyment

* Participants are able to register with us at the booth on the 9th-13th Nov 09' located at block Q (outside south canteen benches).

Rule and regulation
1. Do not go near the pool at all times.
2. Candy, food or beverages are not allowed except in designated areas provided for eating and drinking. No glass items, chewing gum or smoking is permitted anywhere in the facility.
3. Walk; don’t run in and around the pool facility.
4. Foul or abusive language will not be tolerated.
5. Spitting, spouting or nose-blowing in the pool is strictly prohibited.
6. Shoes must be removed before entering the shower and pool area..
7. No bikini is allowed for the girl; Shorts & cut-offs are not allowed in the pool; Wear appropriate swimming attire.
8. Only those who know how to swim are allowed to go to deep pool
9. No hanky-panky
10. Those with open sores or communicable diseases will not be admitted to swimming pools unless a medical doctor’s certificate is presented.

The Pool Master on duty has the authority to enforce these rules and may remove from the Pool area any patron who violates these rules.

Shoot-O dedicated for all School of Engineering students.

Games

Futsal
Rules and regulations
- This event could let both female and male to join but in different categories.

A match shall be played by two teams, each consisting of no more than five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper.
A substitution may be made at any time, regardless of whether the ball is in play or not.
Shinguards required.
A coin is tossed and the team that wins the toss shall decide which goal it will attack in the first half of the match. The other team shall take the kick-off to start the match. The team that wins the toss shall take the kick-off to start the second half of the match.
2 quarters
1 quarter = 15 minutes
5 minutes for half time.
If Team 1 & Team 3 loses they will be playing for the 3rd & 4th places.
If Team 2 & Team 4 won they will be playing against each other for the 1st & 2nd places.

Rules and regulations
- This is only the examples as we still don’t know how many teams there will be.
- This event could let both female and male to join but in different categories.

Prior to the start of the game, the team will have a coin toss to determine first possession.
Forfeit Time: A 10-minute forfeit time will be enforced. Team must be on the court and ready to play.
Checking the ball: The imaginary ‘check line’ shall be outside the 3-point line. A player must pass the ball in from the check line at the start of each half, after a score, or after a foul is awarded. On defensive rebounds or steals (including ‘airballs’), the ball must be returned past the 3-point line and the player in possession of the ball may retain control and attempt to score.
Scoring: The outcome of the game will be decided by the first team to score 21 points or the team with the most points after 10 minutes of play (2 halves of 5mins each). A team does not need to win by 2 points. The scoring of the game will be by 1’s and 2’s: shots behind the 3 point line counting as 2 and shots inside the arch counting as 1.
Time-outs: No time out is allowed.
Substitutions may be made after a basket or a stoppage of play.
Fouls: Fouls committed on a shot attempt will result in the shooting of 1 free throw for a 1-point shot and 2 free throws for a 2-point shot if the basket is not made. If a basket is made in the course of a player being fouled, then one free throw will be awarded. Team fouls will be recorded, and a bonus free throw will be awarded for every foul committed beginning with 7 team fouls (unless the foul occurs on a shot attempt, in which free throws will be awarded based on the type of shot attempt). An individual player cannot foul out of a game, but may be ejected by the supervisor for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Technical fouls: A technical foul may be awarded for administrative purposes, for unsportsmanlike conduct, and for illegal contact occurring during a dead ball. Should a technical foul be called, the offended team will shoot 1 free throw and will also receive the ball for a throw in outside of the 3-point line. If a player receives 2 technical fouls, they will be removed from the game. Also, if a team receives a total of 3 technical fouls, the game will be forfeited.
Overtime: Should the score be tied at the end of 10 minutes of play, a 2 minute overtime period will be played. The 21-point game limit will no longer determine the player. Possession will be determined by a coin toss. If the score is tied at the end of the overtime period, sudden death overtime will be played. The team that scores first in sudden death overtime will be declared the winner. Possession will be determined by a coin toss.
Sportsmanship: All players are encouraged to compete in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship. A team is responsible for the actions of all individual members and spectators directly related to the team. Any team that is involved in any type of physical altercation and unsportsmanlike conduct may be automatically suspended.

Badminton
Rules and regulations
- This is only the examples as we still don’t know how many teams there will be.
- This event could let both female and male to join but in different categories.

The rules of badminton states that a toss shall be conducted before a game starts. If you win, you can choose between serving first or to start play at either end of the court. Your opponent can then exercise the remaining choice.
Each Match shall consist of the best of 3 sets with each set played to 15 points. A team need not win by two points to win a game.
Before commencing play, the opposing sides shall spin the racket, and the side winning the spin shall have the option of:
a. To serve or receive first; or
b. To start play at one end of the court or the other.
c. The side losing the toss shall exercise the remaining choice.
The opposing sides shall play until one side wins two of three games.
Only the serving side can add point to its score.
A game is won by the first side to score 15 points. A team need not win by two points to win a game.
The side winning a game serves first in the next game.
Players shall change ends at the end of the first game and prior to the beginning of the third game.
As for the Final Round, each match shall consist of the best of 3 sets with each set played to 21 points.

Captain Ball
Rules and regulations

The rules of the game shall be conducted in accordance with the existing law of the Netball game as approved by the International Netball Federation Rules and adopted by Netball Singapore.
It does not permit players to take more than one step when in possession of the ball. Consequently, the only way to move the ball towards the goal is to throw the ball to a teammate.
The ball cannot be held by one person for more than 3 seconds at any one time.
Defence is restricted -- not only is contact not permitted, but players must be at least three feet (90 centimeters) away to defend.
Physical contact is not permitted e.g. Hand-slapping or elbowing. If contact is made, the ball will be passed to the team against which the penalty was committed.
If a player runs with the ball, possession is given to the other team.
Each team consists of 5 members, with a max of 3 boys. You may have an extra reserve player if you want to. However, boys will not be allowed to shoot. Goals that are made by boys will not be counted as a goal.
Teams should follow the rules of the game and has to adhere to the decisions of the referee.

Table Tennis – Sports hall

A game shall be won by the player or pair first scoring 11 points unless both players or pairs score 10 points, when the game shall be won by the first player or pair subsequently gaining a lead of 2 points.
A match shall consist of the best of any odd number of games.

Order of play

In singles, the server shall first make a good service, the receiver shall then make a good return and thereafter server and receiver alternately shall each make a good return.
In doubles, the server shall first make a good service, the receiver shall then make a good return, the partner of the server shall then make a good return, the partner of the receiver shall then make a good return and thereafter each player in turn in that sequence shall make a good return.

Let
The rally shall be a let:

if in service the ball, in passing over the net assembly, touches it, provided the service is otherwise good or the ball is obstructed by the receiver or his partner;
if the service is delivered when the receiving player or pair is not ready, provided that neither the receiver nor his partner attempts to strike the ball;
if failure to make a good service or a good return or otherwise to comply with the Laws is due to a disturbance outside the control of the player;
if play is interrupted by the umpire or assistant umpire.

Play may be interrupted:

to correct an error in the order of serving, receiving or ends;
to introduce the expedite system;
to warn or penalise a player;
because the conditions of play are disturbed in a way which could affect the outcome of the rally.

Point
Unless the rally is a let, a player shall score a point:

if his opponent fails to make a good service;
if his opponent fails to make a good return;
if, after he has made a good service or a good return, the ball touches anything other than the net assembly before being struck by his opponent;
if the ball passes beyond his end line without touching his court, after being struck by his opponent;
if his opponent obstructs the ball;
if his opponent strikes the ball twice successively;
if his opponent strikes the ball with a side of the racket blade whose surface does not comply with the requirements of 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5;
if his opponent, or anything his opponent wears or carries, moves the playing surface;
if his opponent, or anything his opponent wears or carries, touches the net assembly;
if his opponent's free hand touches the playing surface;
if a doubles opponent strikes the ball out of the sequence established by the first server and first receiver; as provided under the expedite system (15.2).

Out of order of serving, receiving and ends

If a player serves or receives out of turn, play shall be interrupted by the umpire as soon as the error is discovered and shall resume with those players serving and receiving who should be server and receiver respectively at the score that has been reached, according to the sequence established at the beginning of the match and, in doubles, to the order of serving chosen by the pair having the right to serve first in the game during which the error is discovered.
If the players have not changed ends when they should have done so, play shall be interrupted by the umpire as soon as the error is discovered and shall resume with the players at the ends at which they should be at the score that has been reached, according to the sequence established at the beginning of the match.
In any circumstances, all points scored before the discovery of an error shall be reckoned.

Choice of serving, receiving and ends

The right to choose the initial order of serving, receiving and ends shall be decided by lot and the winner may choose to serve or to receive first or to start at a particular end.
When one player or pair has chosen to serve or to receive first or to start at a particular end, the other player or pair shall have the other choice.
After each 2 points have been scored the receiving player or pair shall become the serving player or pair and so on until the end of the game, unless both players or pairs score 10 points or the expedite system is in operation, when the sequences of serving and receiving shall be the same but each player shall serve for only 1 point in turn.
In each game of a doubles match, the pair having the right to serve first shall choose which of them will do so and in the first game of a match the receiving pair shall decide which of them will receive first; in subsequent games of the match, the first server having been chosen, the first receiver shall be the player who served to him in the preceding game.
In doubles, at each change of service the previous receiver shall become the server and the partner of the previous server shall become the receiver.
The player or pair serving first in a game shall receive first in the next game of the match and in the last possible game of a doubles match the pair due to receive next shall change their order of receiving when first one pair scores 5 points.
The player or pair starting at one end in a game shall start at the other end in the next game of the match and in the last possible game of a match the players or pairs shall change ends when first one player or pair scores 5 points.
